Deciding Norbert's Fate

So obviously I saved Cat, no way am I leaving her in the dungeon. But if I manage to escape and spare Norbert, will I have no other way of getting the items he drops? I don't want to have to kill a mathematician dragon if there's no need to do so, but also... I'm a merciless completionist trash bastard and I would resort to violence for the sake of 100% a game...
So
Is this boy going to have to die?

I put more than enough Mythical Casteks in the game so you don't need to kill him for that but I don't think there's any other way to get the spell Dragon Nail. I'm not 100% sure because I don't recall but I know you can't buy it anywhere.
