Trials not torture

I’m at a switch that even when you try to flip it and get transported elsewhere and I go back to the switch it remains unflipped. I was at a last door and I’ve hit all the candles and torches and one of them said “there’s nothing left here to find” and the door still remains shut. I’ve hit walls and candles/torches.. I’m playing the classic version. Am I missing something?
