I'm currently trying to make a battlemage character, and I'm curious if there would be any advantages to him having light armor primary skills as apposed to heavy armor? I don't think speed is much of a factor here, so what's the difference between heavy and light armors besides (obviously) weight?

Nothing really. Apart from that their "bonus ac" from different skills. Though light armor tends to have less AC than heavy stuff, early on anyway.In later expansions it all balances out. For a battlemage light is fine I think

So, wouldn't heavy armor generally be a better choice then? I'm a little confused why anyone would want light armor :S

The only difference between light armor and heavy armor is heavy armor has ridiculously higher ac while lights armor has a slightly higher enchant space

I reccomend rasvim battle mage for your character.

rasvim is the strongest class period, and they are the most powerful battlemage characters alive, btw do not use light armor, really it's annoyingly useless

So I'm an etherim thief, is it better for me using heavy armours or/and weapons?

Heavy armor is a must however the light or heavy weapons really just depend on whether or not you want a shield or two weapons
