Whats the use of ropes?

There will be certain places in the game (mostly in dungeons) where the game will ask for a rope because you'll face with so large holes on the ground that you can't get over them without a rope.

Alright thanks a lot for the help. Now I know not to throw away that rope I have and haven't used yet
