I am trying to complete the "Join the Thieves Guild" quest for the mysterious man and I have gone to the Guild's lair through the transport in Lake Freymore and have gone back to the mysterious man and he tells me I have not taken everything from the Theives Guild. Now I can't get back to their lair, what do I do?

I think you still ca. There is a lantern in the north east of vastares main city which should take you back there... think you need a key or something from the guild though...

I know this thread is way dead but... I am having the same issue. I have opened every door in the Thieves guild and taken every item EXCEPT for the ones that are being blocked by thieves. The mysterious man in Phryn tells me I have not taken everything. So, my question is how do I get the thieves to get out of the way? I do know how to get back in to the guild

Don't worry, , I figured it out myself. One sword stroke fixed it all. Thanks.

You're doing it wrong, the items blocked by thieves are, well, completely useless

Yes. I believe I did leave something behind from one of the other shelves in the first pass. I was rushing a bit. My 3rd time through the Guild looking for what I missed, I killed all the thieves and scoured the place. Then I found some stuff that I missed. I did however play through and finish the base game. I have since started over with a new character. Do the thieves play any essential part in the expansions?

no, they're absolutely non-essential after you retrieve what you need from tey're guild, after that by killing then you can actually get some decent loot

I'm now playing as a Thief for the first time. After I complete the Strange Man's Quest I got no more Quests from the Leader of the Thieves Guild. If you're a thief does that change?

So WTH?? I have got "the attention" of the guild, got the "goods" but can't kill these guys!! Even though their hp is at 0 they won't die!! I have gone to the inn and still nothing and the lamp post doesn't work - I know that before I was able to kill these guys - SOOOOOO.... as it stands I can't get into the lair and according to the evil bugger in the tower I don't have "all" the loot - what the Heck am I doing wrong!?!?!?!?!?!?! PLEASE HELP!!

It's been a while since I last did this quest. Memory's a little fuzzy. You get the original quest from the mysterious man to join the guild. Then find the group of thieves in the wilderness. I thought you couldn't kill them. Just knock their hp down to 0. But the last time I did kill them. Not sure what was different. Enchanted weapon? Anyway, you take the stolen goods to the inn. Talk to the inn keeper by the dock. Not in city central. Stay till midnight. When you leave you'll be taken to the guild. If not talk to inn keeper till after midnight again. Once you're in the guild den you'll get a quest from them. Eventually you'll get a key. Them you can get what the mysterious man needs. There's some extra things they want and that you can do. But this is generally what you need to do.
