Two questions here.
1. How do you get rotten food?
2. How do you get past the rock blockade?

For the rotten food try inns or look for an area west of vastares called undead mine or something the skelotons there drop some.
For the rocks look around for a hammer in the undead city, equip it and hit the rocks with it.

You have 20 save slots use them all. Save after every quest, save before going into a dungeon, save, save save!!
