Sorry wolf, but i power level, and i use attack magic. Shall we not embrace all playing styles? The game allows it. 'Scaling' is used by some rpg developers to restrict the benefits of grinding, but this game does not.

No you REALLY don't want to use attack magic. Really, you don't, especially if you want to play high-level expansions. It works up until MAYBE level 25 but then you are screwed over by enemies with above 100% magic resistance,
And this is a game that encourages exploration and learning by doing. Why ruin the intended flavor by grinding? When you say grinding I assume you mean killing all the monsters in an area, resting in town for a few days, rinse, and repeat. This is inefficient and time-consuming when you could be looting dungeons for plenty of loot and experience.

Hmmm.. Wondering if i should buy the expansions now. I was under the impression that TQ allowed me to play and succeed it whatever way i chose to play. Your comments were valuable. Thankyou.

Alright, attack magic is useful on (not 100% sure):
-Islands of Ice and Fire
-HOL 1 and probably II
-Elemental Asteroids
-Celtic Hero/Queen
-Cursed Chess Set
I think that it may work in a couple of others but for more info you can check the topic I started a couple of posts down. It's a bummer but was basically a design flaw in the first few high-leveled expansions. And of course, the main game is fine.

Sylon / Redshift wrote:Mixxer: 1. It's more of a sequel, but not perfectly. It's an independent story with some of the key members and places of Legacy and The Quest. The Quest had two possible endings so we can't make a new game with both startings because they are so totally different... Or just simply say it's the continuation of the "good ending", starting a few years after TQ's story, if it's OK for you. : ) Don't worry about Mersant's clothes, he will fit perfectly into the story and into the world - I can't say more about that because that would be a big spoiler, sorry.
2. No, there are no such plans. But anything can happen, who knows... If we have time, we'll see. (The story is not about Mersant ruling the world so taxes, politics, etc. would have nothing to do with it.) As for destroying and building things in the world - we'll see. It's a matter of time.
3. No, Freymore will not be part of the main world because then we would have to rebuild the whole continent of TQ with TQ2's new engine. But Freymore will be on the "big" map, that's for sure.
4. No (sorry for so many "no" : ), there is no official maps, only the one you can check within the games' editor. I hope you know that there is an editor for both Legacy and The Quest.
5. ...And again no, there are no screenshots yet. The new graphic engine is not done yet so we can't make screenshots. I'm drawing now all the graphic stuff, the first half of them are done. (Mostly textures, plants, NPC faces, shops.) The graphic style will be hand drawn, I mean the classic one, not that trendy childish "manga" style which I strongly dislike. : ) Imagine The Quest in a much better quality, better lighting/shadow effects, better animations, etc.
6. The closest release date will be this Christmas.
Thanks for the questions!
3. Uhm... What does it mean? I must admit that I've played only The Quest (and some expansions), so I don't really know much about this universe. Although I've gathered that Freymore is just island in quite big world
I mean- did TQ1 had whole continent in it? And what's this "big map" You mentioned?
4. I know about editors for both games, but I've bough only The Quest (and never played Legacy

). Would it be possible to export map (make screenshot of it in editor?) and post it here/ somewhere on forum/ in special section on main page (it would help get new players introduced to the universe by the way)? Of course if that's not illegal or something...
5/6. In that case, for how long is TQ2 being developed?
Thanks for answers! In that matter I've actually one more- will Android version be released at the same time (or at least similar) as other versions? I ask because I've sold my last ios device recently on behalf of Android

Gaucho: of course you can play the game in any way/mode you want, but you'll soon learn how to play it succesfully. : ) If you just run and run in a survive mode from the beginning, you will have not much chance after a while. But surely it will be fun and full of tension. : ) Probably for the second time, when you already know most of the game, you can really do what you want, experimenting with different playing modes - for example, I played it to the end during the test period with a totally average hero, with no real character development, no enchanted stuff, no big weapons or strong magic. Using tricks, some thief skills and completing sidequests in the most profitable ways. It was not a real challenge. So it's up to you, but it's good to know at least a little about the game when you start to go on a survival mode.
As for the magic and expansions: you don't have to play them all through if you want to use magic as your basic skills. Originally we never planned so many expansions, we just let Zarista Games to make them and we had no control over them (we started other projects after the official expansion was done, there were some problems and member changes and private life issues in the group, etc.). But I can promise that with TQ2 we'll do things differently.
Wolf: okay, you have our permission to do an official blog/walkthrough/whatsoever about TQ2! : )
Mixxer: our fantasy games are all placed in the same "universe" from our very first game, Dragonfire, which was a Diablo-like fantasy hack-and-slash back in 2001. We reveal more and more about this world in each game and in TQ2 there will be a large map where you easily can place Legacy, Quest and of course TQ2's places, towns, etc. But this will still not be a real full world map - we have to leave some places for future games. : ) So yes, Freymore is just a big island, not a real continent. In TQ2 you really will walk on the continent.
Maps are not that important now, but will be from TQ2. There are some fansites which contain maps for Legacy or TQ, but they are the same you can see inside the game when you click on "world map".
TQ2's real development started on the 15th of September, 2013. I think I'll finish most of the graphics around May/June 2014 (it's a huge task for one person in this large resolution), then I can build the world with a new editor.
Sorry, I think the Android version will be the last - first we'll release the iOS, Pc and Mac versions.

It's understandable that it takes time to create games of this high quality..It's worth the wait, because these games bring so much enjoyment to us when we do finally play them!

Unfortunately none of us can make this game now in a fulltime job. That's why the closest release date is Christmas, but I'm afraid we'll be able to release it only around the first quarter of 2015. Stewe has a fulltime programming job (again) at a non-gamemaking company since January, while Elendil is still busy with finishing the fantasy card game. So right now I am the only one who could work on TQ2 every day but because Redshift's current financial state is very bad I also have to do other works from time to time for simply staying alive.
Anyway, we'll make it when we can, as we can, and one day TQ2 will see the light. : )

What if somehow you were to get on Good Old Games. This is the most high quality of first person rpgs and rpgs in general. They must be insane to turn you away. I wish it was easy enough where we could help but unfortunately its not. I just wish there was something I could do to help. You guys deserve to be making top notch and in my opinion some day you will. Eschalon's time is coming, maybe yours will follow. Aw heck, you know I am going to buy the Legacy whole series of expansion packs when done with base game.

I have only just discovered The Quest on my ipad, and it's simply the best game I have played since The Elder Scrolls! I am a 35 year old mum with little time to play games any more, and a game like this for ipad is a dream come true lol! The Quest 2 sounds even more amazing & I can't wait for its release.

ll1728: I don't know Good Old Games but as I can see it features mostly famous, big (A category) games from the past. Our games were not that "big" ones and also they can't even run fullscreen mode on PC because they were made for other platforms. So I don't think that site is good for us. (Or that being there can give us some more income.) But don't worry about us, we'll handle this situation as we always did.
Vlad: thanks, we'll do our best!

GOG would fit pretty well for TQ. You could also try steam greenlight, although in this case You should hurry- it's going to disappear soon.
By the way- how about using Kickstarter to finance TQ2? Most likely it won't bring incredible amount of money, but every $ You get goes to You- in exchange for game after release/ beta for higher tiers.

Steam or some modification on Steam would not be good for us - they already rejected The Quest 1-2 years ago mostly because it's not a fullscreen game, which is understandable for us. So we don't want to "crave" for accepting TQ again. But probably Kickstarter would be a good option - it was already in my mind a few weeks ago, but dropped the idea because I don't think this project would get an acceptable amount of money there. But now we'll talk about it again. : )

Is there something stopping You from setting time for month and goal for 100$? In worst case You will get 100$ (or nothing), in best- TQ2 will get considerable amount of cash. Of course as long as only rewards will be game itself in form of download/ steam/desura (etc) key.

I was looking for a donate (via paypal) option but i haven't found one. It would be a good option so that we can all, if we choose to, help you in creating something we all love.

Of course you can donate through PayPal with the "Donate" button on our site (
www.redshift.hu), but we got almost nothing through this way in the last few years. : ) That's why I'm skeptic about starting a Kickstarter project too, we have not that much fanbase nowadays - so sad we lost what we got about 6-8 years ago back in the PDA days. But hopefully with our new releases we'll get back at least parts of our good old community with some new fanbase.

I've started playing "The Quest" again and I have to say it's an excellent game. Two of the things I feel would make for an even more enjoyable experience are ipad/tablet version and having a party of adventurers. You're already planning those two things in "The Quest 2", which makes me really excited for your new game. The one thing I love in rpg's (that not many of them have) is using non-combat skills/abilities to offer alternative ways to approach/resolve situations (and gain experience points). For example: Using dexterity to be able to cross a rickety bridge, or intelligence to decipher a particular rune, etc. I haven't been playing "The Quest" that long, but I haven't noticed any of these skill tests. Is there a chance that they will be implemented in "The Quest 2"? I'm confident that you will do an excellent job on the new game and am seriously looking forward to it. Thanks for all your hard work.

Yes, there are some of these functions (like using skills or abilities) for completing quests in The Quest too, but definitely there will be much more of these alternative ways in TQ2. These are already on my "todo" list. : )

Just had a good idea. What if there was a way to write down notes in your quest journal, like things concerning dungeons, or notes about alchemy. I mean, you COULD write the stuff in the notes on your phone, but I feel this would be much more organized. Also, you could add tabs in the journal (i.e. Alchemy, dungeons, weapons)

Yes, it's already planned in TQ2. : ) I had this idea too during TQ1's development but we had to leave it out. Now it surely will be in TQ2.
