I was wandering around south of Matras and attracted an Orc Shaman and Orc Chieftain. As I am only level 5, I knew I couldn't defeat them so I ran away. They followed me and are standing at the gate. I keep dying trying to fight them. I've bought almost all of the healing potions in the shop. How do I defeat them? I've done enough quests that i dont want to start over again, but i am trapped in Matras now and it's frustrating.

Get to the inn and sleep to renew your health and mana whilst fighting them would be your best bet. Also stick South East when leaving Matras. You'll encounter archers and highwaymen but they shouldn't be a problem with the right equipment.

Thanks. I finally killed them but I must have died twenty or thirty tries before I succeeded.

An old thread, but I'll answer anyway, since I accidentally found this to be a nice cheat: Orcs (or any too strong melee creatures) will wait at the town gate. I just use long range weapons or spells against them until they die.
