I am concerned about being incapable of finishing the main quest.

Does being unable to finish the Join the Thieves Guild quest mean that I can never finish the main quest, and therefore, never get more storage?

I understand that doing so provides a house, and therefore more storage (which is what I seek).

I previously posted a question about being unable to finish the Join the Thieves Guild quest (I got no reply).

[I have the wealthy family necklaces, and returned to the inn where I
was previously jumped by the thieves, to no avail.]

I looked up the quest and answered your previous question.

(As for permanent storage, there are other places with that, apart from your house. Any container with quest item(s) in it is permanent.)
