I have been trying to progress further as per Sigh’s note. I have been trying to use my weapon and Poison Touch in every location I can get to but still can’t get anywhere. Any advice would be really appreciated

There isn't a whole lo the Fen Caves. As you enter, walk as far north as you can and hurl a throwing weapon north and hurl another throwing weapon west. That opens up some paths. The walls of force there are just decorative. You want to get to the point where you can see and kill the Mire Spawn. If this doesn't help, let me know.
