I have sent Elendil a couple of suggestions but the only one which may work is to block users ability to post links + images until x amount of posts but I am not sure how easy this is to do as he has little experiance with foorums and I have even less... He said he may try a some software stuff that should auto detect bots but then the bots hay find workarounds.

There really is no easy way to stop the spammers.

We had some in the old forums but now it seems to be a little out of control. I would not complain as much if I was not underage.

This forum is still quite new, have faith in Redshift I'm sure they will come up with something. I too am underage 15 I think (sometimes I forget )

I've now changed the CAPTCHA for registering, hopefully no bots will get in anymore.

This is not easy. Of course we would like that no spambots get on the forum, however we would not like to discourage people from joining the forum and posting their questions.

A surefire way would be to require all new accounts to be hand checked by an admin before users can post. However we are just not available 24/7, so this would mean a lot of delay, hours minimum, but it might even be a day. That's just not something which would work...

The new CAPTCHA is reCAPTCHA by Google, it should be quite strong.

Will definetley stop any bots using the forum and the numbers of real people spammers should be low enough to cause little effect

Nowadays, you must answer a question to register (which seems to be better at keeping out bots than captchas). Then your first post is reviewed before it becomes visible. I've also blocked a lot of internet addresses which were trying to spam/hack.

All in all, I've not seen any complaints for a long while. Hopefully, this means there aren't any.
