If you were to pick just one fantastic RPG, what would it be?
I'd like to say The Quest, and it is a cut above no matter what, but there's one game that changed my view of videogames recently.
It's the wacky Japanese game Mother 3, released in 2006 for Game Boy Advance. It even surpassed my beloved Arvale in terms of story and characters of characters

The story is not so simple anybody can get it, but I think anybody can feel the cosiness of simple life and then the historical re-shaping of the world. Ok, no spoilers, this game is definitely an inspiration for life in general and even more so if you're a creator. By not being perfect, it doesn't seem like a lofty standard, while the charm is unforgettable. Best games for me are those I don't forget easily. It can be tragic at times, but it's just a game) And it's very linear, there's not much you can miss except some dialogue.
