Is there a limit to the number of maps I can add?

Obviously there must be a limit, but should I be worried about actually reaching it?

There is no explicit limit.

The most likely outcome is that the computer (yours or someone's who is trying to play the world) runs out of memory if you create thousands upon thousands. A few hundred should be absolutely problem free.
