After gaining his "hoard", when I speak with Lord Chillbreath he just thanks me for returning the chest, but doesn't take it, or do anything else. Is this intended behavior?

He took his gold and gave you a little bit. He's a lord and not interested in the chest. : ) You can dispose of it. Just drop it somewhere. It's intended behavior.

There was no text saying he took anything, or gave me anything.

This is his little speech when you give him the chest.

"My hoard! This was stolen from me by a rival who wanted all my lands. I think he's gone. Greed got to him. Well, you have my thanks. Take this gold for your honesty."

He gives you 1800 gold.

After that, all he has to say is, "Thanks again for returning my chest. It's rare to find someone as honest as you are."

Never showed that message. He's only ever told me the second message

That sounds like a mobile glitch. Everything is correct there. Or perhaps you somehow missed that text.

Hahaha I took the chest and had it opened by Lindo the Key maker in Hissing Thicket. It cost me 100 gold and they gave me 1000 gold and took the chest soooo I got 900 gold. I should have taken it to the Lord of the Keep. Lol
