Preserve the relics question

Hello everyone. Im stuck at the very first of the quest preserve the relics. Im tried alot of times to solve the three switches to be able to pass the third spikes but i always fails can someone tell me how to solve it? All i keep getting is bing or bong or nothing happen on the third switch. Thanks.

Switch them all up, then switch:
As you face north, press the middle lever that faces south down.

Then press the top lever that faces east down.

Then press the bottom lever that faces east down.
