I am not sure what is happening but I can’t find a switch when I go up the east stairway ,I see the switch on the west side but I can’t get through the door I think I must be missing something?

On the east side, hit the walls in the north if you have the quest Kill the Brocken Spectre.

What door can't you get through?

The door you come to in the Center stairs .

I tried you reply I hit the walls in the North I remember one wall disappeared when I hit it earlier on.
But I still can’t get anywhere past the door in the back of the middle stairs I have hit the switch on the west stair back wall .

What am I missing?

You need to hit the switch on the west side of the Dun of the Dead map. But before you can hit that switch, you need to activate the switch on the east side of the map there. In addition to the Kill the Brocken Spirit quest, to remove the rest of the walls on the east side you need the quest Kill the Slitherers, "For the Soulless One, Fourth Dimension, kill the Slitherers that trouble him. You need a Mage Antivenom Wand."

That's wrong and will be fixed in an update. If you have the quest to Kill the Slitherers, you can break those walls but the only quest you should need there is to Kill the Brocken Spectre. Wait for the update or get the Kill the Slitherers quest.
