Leaving the fisher village

Either I'm severely missing something or there's a problem with leaving the village! How do you get the teleporter in the hut working? I've tried everything to leave the village and the only thing I managed to do is get to the magic school but then I'm back to the village so what gives? I'm stuck! Someone please help me!

The girl Gorlitza on Muck Island which is right next to where you are sets that teleporter on when she gives you the quest to deliver supplies.
